Coach's HIGHLIGHTS

The coaches for the 18U Elite team are Rob Spofford and Ashley Lippert.

Rob Spofford is currently on the staff of the highly successful and nationally ranked Emerson College Division III softball program as an Assistant Coach to Head Coach Phil McElroy.

Prior to joining Emerson College, Rob had been the Head Varsity Softball Coach at Cohasset HS.  In his second full season as head coach he took Cohasset (20-4) to the MIAA Division III 2009 State Semi Final where they lost to eventual State Champion - St. Mary's - 4-3 in 9 innings.   Rob has been successfully coaching at the Junior Olympic level for the past 8 years at various age groups.  Rob is an active member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and has achieved the Level 3 ASA ACE Coaching Certification.

Ashley Lippert joined the Thunder program in 2009 as a pitching and assistant head coach.  Ashley was an accomplished pitcher for John Carroll University, graduating in 2008.  Ashley earned numerous awards and honors during her stellar high school and collegiate career and was an integral part of the success at John Carroll University.  We are fortunate to have on staff a quality pitching coach of Ashley's caliber which has been extremely helpful in the development of both pitchers and catchers.

This coaching combination brings to the Thunder program the most up to date and cutting edge collegiate offensive and defensive strategies, from both a player and coach perspective.  This expertise will help properly prepare the players to successfully compete for positions at the next level.

Please contact Rob Spofford, with any questions or further information on the 18U program or team in general.

Coach's Message

The collective coaching and mentoring philosophy of the 18U program is focused solely on preparing our players to successfully compete both on and off the field at the collegiate level.  This will include for all our players and parents the proper help and hands on guidance with the college recruiting and selection process.

We will be conducting formal hitting clinics in the Fall and Winter with one of the best hitting coaches in the area who has coached and prepared numerous successful Division I collegiate players.  In addition, beginning in January we will have formal in-door workouts where we will work with each player both individually and as part of the team on the proper defensive strategies and skills used at the collegiate level.  All this effort is geared in the short term to prepare our players to have successful individual showcase experiences as well as team success in the summer and in the long term to be a standout at their collegiate tryouts.
